A Guide’s Welcome

A Guide’s Welcome
A first meeting
Piak greets Tiuri and Jaro at the source of the Blue River. His music and direct manner make the dangerous journey feel briefly welcoming.
Trust begins with service
Menaures appoints Piak as their guide. The young mountain dweller accepts responsibility for strangers whose purpose he does not yet fully know.
A Shared Secret

A Shared Secret
Listening through echoes
Piak overhears the truth about the letter and Slupor through the mountain echoes. He admits what he knows instead of pretending ignorance.
An explicit bond
Tiuri trusts him and asks him to preserve the secret. Piak says Menaures has given him a parallel duty: guide and protect the courier.
A Mountain Rescue

A Mountain Rescue
Dependence reversed
Piak guides Tiuri through dangerous terrain, but Tiuri’s stamina and judgment also support Piak during the storm. Neither can complete the crossing safely alone.
Partnership confirmed
They keep each other awake and warm through a hard night, trading songs and stories. Their friendship develops through practical care rather than grand declarations.
The River’s Test

The River’s Test
A sinking boat
Their illegal crossing goes wrong when the leaking boat strikes a submerged rock and Piak falls into the water. Tiuri abandons the boat to rescue him.
Mutual risk
Tiuri swims Piak to the island, while Piak later helps preserve the message. Their bond is tested by danger and strengthened by each accepting risk for the other.
Farewell and Return

Farewell and Return
Separate needs
Piak decides the mountains remain his home, while Tiuri must return to his own kingdom. Neither treats the separation as betrayal.
A chosen reunion
Piak reverses course and catches Tiuri near Dagonaut City. Their friendship survives uncertainty because both can choose companionship freely.
